While the land has been used for agricultural purposes since before 1930, Ward’s Berry Farm was established in 1982, when the Wards expanded their family’s gardening hobby into a complete farming enterprise. Since then, the community has adored their produce, including their award-winning heirloom tomatoes, strawberries, and sweet corn.
Brothers Jim and Bob Ward ensure that their farm is operated sustainably. 18 acres of farmland are certified organic, while the other 160 acres are managed using Integrated Pest Management, a technique that nourishes the soil through practices like cover cropping and no-till agriculture. Ward’s Berry Farm works with the USDA’s Natural Sources Conservation Service to ensure that nearby water resources and soil nutrients are protected, while still meeting the community’s demand for their tasty produce–and that demand sure is high! Ward’s Berry Farm continues to be a place for the community to come together to pick-their-own strawberries, enjoy one of Mrs. Ward’s delicious pies, and relax on a seasonal hayride.
