Don’t be fooled by the name; Stonefield Farm’s once-rocky soil has not stopped it from being impressive agricultural land for over 300 years. In 1929, the Simeone Family began farming on the land. They began by solely harvesting existing apple trees to sustain themselves, but the farm quickly grew. Paul, Mike, and Carl Simeone began working on their father’s land, specializing in high-quality tomatoes, peppers, and squash. When the time came to sell the farm, the brothers wanted to ensure it would continue to be preserved for agriculture. Today, Stonefield Farm is a program under the Boston Area Gleaners whose mission is to strengthen the local food system. These programs address food insecurity and food waste through improved access to fresh, gleaned produce, as well as through providing tactical support to new farmers.
Staying true to its legacy, Stonefield Farms continues to grow their well-loved tomatoes with the expansive expertise of Bill Russell, Colin Reid, Glenroy Malcom, Donovan Young, Scott Caouette, and the Simeone brothers–all of whom have worked on the farm for countless years.
