The land that Kimball Fruit Farm resides on has been passed down from farmer to farmer since the 1700s. Its current owners, David and Amanda Wadleigh, bought Kimball Fruit Farm after spending over eighteen years working and learning the intricacies of farming from its previous owners, Cal and Marie Hills.
The Wadleighs use Integrated Pest Management to ensure their harvests meet the demand of the community, while doing so sustainably: they use beneficial mycorrhizal fungus to add nutrients to their soil naturally, and to prevent soil erosion and nutrient depletion. They also use drip irrigation, cover crops, and no-till growing; they implement biological and physical controls to prevent pests, like biodegradable mulches and fencing. Even further, the land is now forever preserved in perpetuity for agricultural use, which it continues to excel at–taste some of Kimball Fruit Farm’s carrots, heirloom tomatoes, or apples and you’ll understand why!
