The Ricker Family planted their first apple trees in Turner, Maine in 1803 when two brothers immigrated from the Isle of Jersey in Europe. Today, the ninth generation cultivates primarily apples in addition to cranberries and grapes across 400 acres. The orchard is a leader in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices for tree fruit and grows five acres of Certified Organic fruit. Ricker Hill Orchards is part of the EcoCertified program, a rigorous, ecology-based farming and certification program that supports and rewards local farmers who use the most eco-sensitive, minimally treated, natural methods possible to grow their fruit. Ricker Hill also takes pride in its loyal employees who come back year after year, many who continue to work with them into their 70s even 80s, acknowledging that farming is hard-work and appreciating the dedication of their long-time employees.
